Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
14 sprightly runners, ran 2.5 miles down to a community sports pavilion, painted the changing rooms and ran back
The weather was back to what I have become accustomed to at GoodGym Newham - super fresh with crystal clear skies - great running conditions.
We had the biggest group since my tenure as GoodGym Trainer, a massive 14 of us took to the streets to make a little difference beyond our own needs. Wunderbar. 2 groups set off, Carol expertly navigating as a back marker, and myself, less expertly navigating up front. The 'fast' group went on a little scenic route (accidentally) and saw the lovely sights of Leyton high rd, not a typical tourist hot-spot, but a gritty charm it had. The back group ended up beating the 'fast' group to the destination. A funny state of affairs!
Once at Wanstead Flats, we were welcomed by the cheery groundsman James. He distributed several paint brushes and a roller - we got to work. Caressing the walls with strokes of GoodGym love in a fantastically efficient fashion - the only way we know how. 20 mins rolled by super quickly. James chose which of the two changing rooms was painted better, but being the nice chap he is, he only divulged the information to me. So with a stoke of luck changing room no 10 won. Don't worry opposite room painters, brush it off and forget about it.
We then proceeded to leg it back with some 1 minute gear 3 (comfortably hard) efforts to return us to base. We all went in the correct direction, not hard considering it was essentially a straight road. A stretch was had back at the Aquatics Centre, then off we went home.
Thanks again guys - great numbers, exquisite team work, nice conversation, frenetic painting, glorious running and good vibes.
Until next week.
