TWENTY FIVE GG Yorkies turned up to do good in the rain!
After a few rounds of applause for our Saturday Sheffield Mission Takeover and all the good racing from the weekend, we welcomed two newbies to the gang in Ross and Paul - make sure you give them both a big, hearty cheer!
The run to TCV York was just over a mile but the traffic lights were not our friends today. Even my #trafficlightselfies weren't very good as I tried to shield the phone from the rain. Maddy did an excellent job of back-marking though and the group arrived in one piece.
We met Bobby who explained that the task had changed slightly due to the weather. What was supposed to be a mostly outdoor painting task was now a mostly indoor sanding/filling/painting job with a spot of gardening available for anybody who didn't mind being out in the rain.
It was a frantic first ten minutes as Bobby ran up and down the stairs grabbing extra paintbrushes and polystyrene cups to share the paint. We had toilet roll to clean down the window sills and a battle on to grab the smallest paintbrush for the fine work of painting window frames. There was a tense moment where the big can of paint was dispersed into the polystyrene receptacles but Emily held her nerve and didn't spill a drop.
Soon, everyone settled into their tasks with a sanding squad, a painting posse, a cleaning crew and err.. EJ with the hoover. Bobby even taught Kat how to do the filling for the rotten bits of wood - it was a proper DIY task with new skills being learnt and everything!
Precision painting? With this? - Alex with an enormous paintbrush
With such a big group we were finding loads of little jobs to leave TCV as sparkly as possible, we wiped down tables, dusted surfaces and chairs, we even cleaned the printer and photocopier!
You've literally polished a turd - Bobby, TCV York with the quote of the night
As the painting got well underway, some of the team split off to tackle the garden task and with just ten minutes remaining, the speed picked up. We left TCV glistening and ran back to base through the city centre, finishing our run with a lovely gentle core session and a nice stretch out on the floor.
Another good deed done and don't forget we're doing some speed training with kilometre reps tomorrow - get signed up so we know you're coming!
