Report written by Greenwich runner
Three Goodgym volunteers arrived at the bi-weekly Royal Arsenal market to get it set up and support the organisers. Early indications was this would be a relaxed market.
As time passed market equipment started to appear which could then be set up. In a flash it was 20min before the market was due to open and the bulk of market equipment had only just arrived on site.
With a flurry of activity most of the tents went up without a hitch. There were a few with the odd leg missing which provided lots of festive laughs save for the market stall holders, the organisers and Pieter who was somehow delegated to solve every unsolvable problem that arose.
With weather described by some as dull and pointless there were some signs of life with the odd random gust doing so well as to lift an entire stall into the air and plonk it back down. Another flurry of stall holders madly asking for more tent weights or volunteers to sellotape themselves to each of the four legs for the remaining 6 hours.
In the end everything was sort of done and we had been there hours anyway so with Pieter dripping in cold sweat from fixing the electrics from the site, tents in an irreparable condition, volunteers that wonder off for ages and desperate break downs from stall holders, we checked out. Merry Christmas!
