Report written by Huw Davies
Part 2 of our series of runs to share the word of the fantastic fundraising events put on by LOROS this year saw us stay fairly local, covering Braunstone Gate and Narborough Road. After hearing some horror stories of people's running during yet another storm the runners headed off along the river past the football stadium and looping back through Bede Park while walkers Dave and Mel set about tackling Braunstone Gate before we met up.
As in the norm, we split into teams taking one side of the road each and raced our way out of town along Narborough Road. It appeared there was a slightly higher refusal rate that our previous task along London Road but nevertheless most businesses were happy to oblige and display some event booklets for the customers to take or read. The launderette proved the best location to visit - nobody in there to say no thanks!
As 7pm struck we had got as far down the road as we logistically could before hitting a stretch of private housing - another perfectly timed task! Dave and Mel kindly walked the wheelie bag and trolley back to base while the rest of us ran back for a short session of squats and lunges. With lots of miles being piled up by many of us we worked on building up strength in our quads, hamstrings and glutes, hopefully helping prevent potential knee injuries in particular. Body weight squats, pivot squats, alternating lunges, alternating side lunges and anterior reaches complete we strolled back around the building to stretch off and disappear off into the night.
Back to Scope next week for more fun and games. SYT!
Happy running, HD
