We ran around 3km to prepare our patch of the Peace Garden
Sunny if a little chilly tonight - great weather for running and an incentive to work hard once we got there! Tonight we headed off towards Park Hill Rec's Community Garden to help prepare our patch of the Peace Garden for the Peace Festival in June. Ellie led the group to one of our warm-up spots on Dingwall Road where she put them through their paces while I limped along as the back marker - being back marker is a great disguise for being injured and unable to run!
We then headed to the park to meet up with Josi who unveiled our section of the Peace Garden. Our task tonight was to carefully transplant all the plants already in that section to another part of the garden and then weed and dig the soil so it would be ready for us to plant up one Saturday. There are going to be a couple of planting sessions and also a craft session to make a flag for the garden so I;ll send details as soon as I have them. Thinking hats on for easy to plant, hardy red and white flowers for our patch - we are thinking of trying to plant the GoodGym logo! THere's also going to be the opportunity to crowdfund for a ceramic tile that will be set in the wall with GoodGym's name on it - so watch this space.
As Josi had been stuck in a meeting we did the fitness session first. We were working on upper body strength and keeping warm. The runners split into twos and threes with one runnerjogging, skipping, sprinting or sidestepping to the blossom trees while their partner did press-ups, planks, tricep dips, backward lunges or squats. Also popped in some bear crawls and crab walking. Our latest recruit Detti instantly made herself popular by mentioning burpees! I was kind though and they only had to do 5 at the very end though I did ask Jonathan to demonstrate a few more as he did them with great style and agility.
Stephanie kept me company at the back on the way back to base and Ellie led the swifter runners back to Solutions.
Next week we are heading to White Horse Road Rec to help Charles and his gang prepare the Rec for a MayDay Festival so he has lots of tasks in mind for us so see you all there. And don;t forget the GoodGym Social on Tour this Thursday in Penge - it's chance to meet GoodGymers from other areas.
