6 Faithful goodgymmers hit the streets of Haringey, took on the task along with a fitness session

two great little inventions

This week we welcomed one of Islington’s task force who slipped into the team nicely as one of our task force members Dashing Dave was unable to attend. Great having you join us Graham. After our little briefing and a warm up we headed over to this weeks light - the Living Under One Sun allotments in Tottenham Hale. Awaiting us was a huge pile of perennial weeds. The task involved us using two great little inventions made by the L.U.O.S staff. These inventions resembled two washing machine drums, which were sat atop of a frame perched on two wheelbarrows. Theses drums where turned by hand which assisted in getting the loose dirt off of the weeds roots and into the wheelbarrow. It was important for us to separate the two as the roots needed to be burnt due to the fact that they are so invasive and succeed in growing pretty much anywhere and of course roots wont burn with mud attached.

pitch the two tumbler teams against each other

While the inventions were being set up I went off to get everyone a jacket and pair of heavy-duty gloves, which were kindly, provided by Sandy. We then split into two groups and tumbled away. Everyone was doing such a great job so myself and Sandy the task owner decided to re erect the willow angel which once stood in the center of the L.U.O.S logo flowerbed. The logo is a huge sun and it's sun rays. That done I had a whip around to take pictures for our monthly face off competition. I informed/reminded everyone that they were required to pull their silliest of faces and to hope the wind didn’t change direction. Pictures taken I decided to up the anti and pitch the two tumbler teams against each other for the last 15 minutes to see who could separate the most dirt or as Sandy insisted we call it "soil" from the roots. This really got everyone going and you could see the competitive side come out in everyone (isn’t that right Mohammad) =)

(no chicken dippers here)

In the end it was very close so I called it a draw before we had to pack up and start heading back to HQ. En route back we stopped off at KFC to do some dips, not have chicken mind (no chicken dippers here). After 30 seconds of dips we were off again. We stopped off one last time near the Bernie Grant centre to do some squats and shuffles before the sprint finish back to base.

Stretching and banter ensued and we just about managed to get those high fives in too.

Until next week folks – stay fit do good & look out for the light!
