Report written by Tower Hamlets runner
Storms over the weekend have seen lots of parkruns cancelled and in truth we thought carefully about the conditions for todays run, but agreed that if you were ok with getting wet and muddy, and perhaps prepared to skate a bit too, we could press on. Although they were few in number the hardy souls who turned up put in impressive efforts. I say hats off to the amazing children who braved the strong winds, rain, and mud to take part in todays parkrun. The juniors were undiminished by storm Durragh. We did not hang around with the warm up - a quick run through of Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, but we made sure there was time to congratulate Emmie on her 22nd parkrun and joining the illustrious Marathon Milestone Club in receiving her green wristband; Jack too was super impressive as we cheered him in receiving his grey wristband marking his 100th parkrun (actually it was his 101st!) Although it was no day for PB’s on the course the volunteers certainly attempted a record as the fastest tidy away once the runners were all in. All packed away Mas and I sheltered in the park keepers hut to process the results and that was it for another week. I hope all the runners had a well deserved cup of hot chocolate when they got home. As for me a a toasted crumpet with strawberry jam and a slice of cheese was just what I needed whilst I dried out.
parkrun organise free, weekly, 2km timed runs for young people around the world. They are open to 4-14 year olds, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
