Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
We kicked off our run in Wandsworth last night the best way possible - by welcoming a record number of lovely new faces to the group. Ladies and gents of GoodGym, please give Alice, Pascale, Jessica, Cecilia, Toby, Charlotte and Chloe a massive cheer. Welcome to the gang!
We also took our hats off for Emily, Luke, Amy and Matthew who all smashed races this week. Lovely job, team.
We had only a short run ahead of us last night, so after our hellos we hopped outside to have a quick warm up, and to take a vote on our favourite breakfast cereal. Weetabix was far and away the winner, and judging by the energy levels last night, everybody had started the day off with a bowl (other brands are also available).
Our job tonight was at Battersea Park Library, and after a quick mile run, we arrived to find James the Librarian waiting for us with gloves and water. He tasked us with weeding and clearing the area outside of the library building, and we set right to it because we LOVE our local libraries which serve as a brilliant resource for the whole community. As usual, we got the usual friendly heckling, including one passing wag who expressed surprise that so many people had lost a contact lens in the same place. Haha. Now grab a pair of gloves and come and help.
Area cleared of weeds, we waved goodbye, and set off for the lush green fields of Battersea Park to do our fitness session. We had a vote on a legs or a core blast, and having opted for the abs workout, we set about doing three sets of three exercises (including Russian twists, planks, crunches, hip raises and scissors) followed by a short recovery.
To finish off the evening we played the inaugural game of Physical Pursuit (patent pending), which involved us splitting into groups of five people, sprinting to get questions, and doing five burpees before giving the answer. the competition was fierce, the burpees were many, the answers were not always right, but Jo's team was victorious. Well done everyone!
Dividing up into two groups for those that wanted to push it a little harder, we raced back to the BAC and stretched it out. Excellent work team! Same again next week, yeah?
