This was a community mission that we did together...but apart. It sounds a bit rubbish, and it was! More than 3000 pieces of rubbish actually. Not just a litter bit, but a whole lot!!
Thanks to the beautiful weather and Covid-19, our green spaces, parks and pavements have been quite heavily used recently, and sadly not always in a responsible way. So this week we turned our jogs into plogs. We took litter picking equipment on our runs and walks and helped tidy up.
Trash talk? Here are some of the positive things our runners reported back:
Stephan and I had a very nice Parkrun/Pickrun this morning that was also an opportunity to help the community and nature. Bingo!! (Meggie)
Lots of people said thank you which was nice! (Wendy)
I had a blast doing it, spoke to some people on the way and at Ockwells Park. Made my day! Thanks again, for making me active (Rekha)
A special mention to Rekha, who kicked off her birthday in style by doing her litter pick and logging her first ever GoodGym good deed to boot. Happy birthday to you, squashed beer cans and an old shoe... this girl really knows how to celebrate!
Rekha wasn't our only newbie - kudos also goes to Meggie, Michelle Burke, Jen Francis and Francis De Juan, who all joined us having been recruited to team Squeeze the Day for the GoodGym 48 hour virtual relay in May.
A big thank you to Sophie Lack, who helped us source lots of litter pickers and hoops from Cox Green Councillor Phil Haseler. Sophie also walked for nearly 2 hours and picked up a whopping 930 pieces of rubbish!
It was also great to welcome Jen Simpson, Jenny Z and Sutyee from our neighbouring Slough, and Liz Mills, Peter Van Tongeren, Michelle Grimley and Louise Costelloe-Ward from further afield. While real-life travel is limited, these superstars couldnt refuse the opportunity for a bit of virtual GoodGym tourism.
Louise also wins the prize for the most intriguing find - a metal tray full of glass bowls. Tray bizarre!
Fan-trash-stic.

Lovely report Amy
Happy belated birthday Rekha. Celebrate curious times, in the current climate with the fabulous good gym family. Welcome newbie good gymers too. (Nurjehan - Good Gym Haringey)
