The well oiled machine that is GoodGym Newcastle (today represented by Liz and Louise) together with the well oiled machine that is the East End Women’s food bank, (today represented by Nancy) once again made light work of packing 48 bags of ambient food ready for delivery later in the week. We also organised the already packed bags of fresh and ambient food, toiletries, sanitary wear and dog food and loaded them into the wonderful volunteer delivery drivers’ cars. We had no cat food available today so some of the cats in Walker have been treated to tuna this week! Early in the task I lost my glasses but was delighted when one of the drivers brought them back for me later, having found them in one of the food bags! Maybe there’s something in the idea of starting a spectacles bank next!
East End Women offers practical courses for women to build confidence and skills around DIY, sewing, pattern cutting and basic trades. We also deliver the Freedom Programme domestic abuse recovery course, helping women to better understand the roots of domestic abuse and build confidence to identify warning signs in the future. In addition to this, East End Women also offer social activities and drop-in sessions for women experiencing isolation to meet one another, make friends and build local networks.
