Report written by Lucy Hill
The good weed of the day was helping the lovely Vanessa at Wormholt Park. The dreaded C-word had left the space in need of a little TLC, and there was a mix of weeds that needed to be cleared out.
As easy as ABC...C? Aine, Beth, Clare and Chris got to work on one patch, making a big difference straight away and building a mountain of weeds in Wormholt. Across the path, Lucy got stuck root in to her gardening, advised by Vanessa to pull out ‘all the fluffy ones - they’re weeds’. The fluffy ones were deceiving though, with their fluffy heads they also had very long wiggly wormy like roots that spread throughout the ground.
All of a sudden, someone in red was heading our way... It was Alice... and... Alice!? Both of the Alice’s had arrived at the same time, causing all sorts of Alice-based confusion. ‘How are you Alice?’ We asked one of the Alice’s, and the other one answered, ‘and the other Alice, how are you?!’.
Team Alice set to work, with Vanessa setting one of the Alice’s on one type of weed, and the other onto another - the sticky balls. ‘Be warned’ Vanessa said, ‘they have some big old roots, you’ll need to do a lot of digging’.
By this time, The ABCC team had de-weeded their patch and had moved onto another section, with Beth joining Lucy and the Alice’s on deweeding, one variety at a time. Soon, Alice G had worked her way through about seven different weed types individually, and Alice P had given her hairy balls a good tug and taken half of the park up with her getting the roots out, and it was half seven before we knew it.
A group photo by the plant pile mountain, and a big cheer to Alice P, who had now completed her 50th good weed, sorry, deed with GoodGym. Only a few months later, but a fabulous achievement none the less. Unfortunately, there wasn’t cake to celebrate. We did consider letting vegan Alice have some of the greenery we’d cleared, but decided against it. So instead we are making Alice of milestone achievers and will have a massive cake fest in the near or distant future. Or just next task?
Of which, Flora Gardens next Tuesday, and then back here to Wormholt Park the Tuesday after. Plus, HAMMERSMITH AND FULHAM GOODGYM TURNS FOUR! Four years of doing good and getting fit in the borough. So there will definitely be cake. Birthday cake, 50 good deed cake and cake because, well, cake! See you all there!!
