Report written by Sheffield runner
This weekend 3 GGrs cleaned the banks of the River Ahr in Ahrweiler.
Old literature suggests Ahrweiler was 'twinned' with Sheffield on the 14th March 1943! ;)
Trashy Ash, Müll Collector Chris and Kit-(operator)-Kat plogged 12.7km on our journey along footpaths by the river.
Led by Sheriff Chris, like Hänsel and Gretel following the bread crumbs, instead we followed the Bonbonpapier (sweet wrappers) trail left by the people of Ahrweiler to get to an unloved littered bridge location.
Many citizens of Ahrweiler were amazed by our dedication to cleaning up the neighbourhood, heiße Körper and thanked us for our efforts :)
Chris organised Hans the Heron to make an appearance for our visit, and also Stefan the GG Red Squirrel! Kat and Ash couldn't remember the last time they had seen a red squirrel.
Many bags of litter were collected by the tireless trio.
Special mentions to GG Bee's foldable litter picker and GG Lilli's snood for joining us on our plogging adventure.
On our return back to Chris', the rainbow gods sang 'Jawoll!!' and rewarded us with a lovely rainbow.
We finished our session with many post-run calorifically-chris-made flapjacks!
