Last nights GG started off on a hectic note. Just as the run briefing was getting into full swing, an unmarked police car screeched round the corner and 3 burly officers (packing heat no less) legged it off in pursuit of a gang of lads hanging about in the local park. All of a sudden it was all kicking off with police cars and police men appearing from every path, road, hole and crevice. This all made it very difficult to concentrate on the gobbledegook coming out of my mouth. It probably explains the huge volume of people who opted for the 10k run this week. I don't think they had heard me mention it involved a schlep up Primrose Hill!

Having survived the police raid and the downpour we set off to find the gold at the end of the double rainbow. Everyone is keen to get the miles in it seems and so the long runs are more of an attraction these days - 16 of us set off to Abbey Community Centre. We went over 5k up and over primrose hill where we were treated to a lovely view of london and the storm moving across it.

At Abbey we were met by Laura who outlined what we were to do. It turned out the gold at the end of the rainbow was mulched up bark! Laura needed us to spead it around the garden as the original layer was wearing thin. Around 8 big bags of bark were emptied out and spread, the garden looked great after we were done and a 'crack' team had cleared weeds from between the paving stones too. Laura was very pleased and said we'd make a big difference for the members of the community that use the garden. A final group snap, as well as a photo of the lovely murial that had gone up on the wall that we had cleaned and painted on a previous task, and then a quick run back, a warm down and it was a job well done!

Leaf your troubles at the door

A smaller group went short and run to St Pancras Church. We went to give some help in the garden. They are about to stage an exhibition there and the garden needs some TLC. We had a couple of important tasks; spreading an old bag of compost and raking the leaves in and around the beds (so we don't stop the other plants from gaining those all important nutrients). We gave ourselves 25mins and in that short period we still made a big impact.

Big up Gandhi and the Woolf

This gave us an important to run rings round Gandhi and Virginia Woolf as we did a few laps of Tavistock Square. Unfortunately the park police moved us on before we got going so we finished off with a run through the gears around Russell Square. Nice work all!
