Three GoodGymers tootled down to Honour Oak on a sunny Saturday afternoon to help Mrs V re-pot some plants. We set to the task of moving a good number of pots so that we could access the damson tree at the back of the garden. After a little weeding and pruning (and a broken trowel) we managed to get the tree and its roots out of the pot. Mrs V gave us instructions to cut back some of the roots. We wondered what implement we would be using to do this, but Mrs V quickly re-emerged with a meat-cleaver, a kitchen knife and some scissors! Turns out that a meat cleaver is actually pretty effective for cutting back roots...who knew?!

Once Mrs V was happy with our root cutting progress we re-potted the tree with some fresh compost and gave it a nice bit of water. Then we moved on to the next plant - a spikey fan/palm type thing. Some of the leaves had started to yellow, so Mrs V got us to cut those back and take it out of the pot again. This one had mega roots - Samuel stepped in to hack away at them with a garden spade before finishing the job with the trusty meat cleaver. We then re-potted this one with some fresh compost and returned it to it's place in the garden.

We'd managed to get soil over most of the patio so we spent some time cleaning up and retuning the pots to their rightful homes. Mrs V was very happy with our work and said she would think of us when the damson tree comes in to blossom in a few months time. Good work team!
