Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Iram (She/her)
Each Monday morning, GoodGym lends a hand to the South Ealing Food Cupboard, helping the wonderful volunteers get surplus food sorted and ready for the local community. This week, Diana and Iram were up to the task!
This week’s session felt more like preparing for a tropical brunch buffet than a typical food cupboard shift! There was a bounty of pineapples, coconuts, and enormous watermelons. There were so many huge melons, it required a team effort to move, chop and bag them! As if that wasn’t enough, boxes of croissants, stacks of tin foil, and an avalanche of chicken made their entrance - a good haul indeed.
It was another brilliant morning of teamwork, good vibes, and keeping good food out of the bin and into the hands of people who need it.
The SEC Food Cupboard is a community project set up to reduce waste. A group of local volunteers receives/collects surplus food from the supermarkets (Eg via Felix Project) and makes it available to anyone and everyone from the local area. The SEC Food Cupboard is available to all – its aim is purely to reduce waste and everyone can help with that. Always Free! The selection of food items each week will vary according to what is surplus food on that day.

Great work Diana and Iram. It must have been a nice session, being surrounded with all those exotic fruit. Love the report, Iram!
