Report written by Elizabeth
GoodGym has teamed up with Food Drop to help reduce waste by getting unsold food to those in need!
Through the Food Drop app, runners can collect unsold food from high-street retailers like Pret A Manger and Caffè Nero and drop them off at nearby charities. Details of how to book a slot are provided at the bottom of this report 😊
Tonight, Liv, Michael and I met up at a Pret in Farringdon to take their leftover food to SoapBox, a youth centre in Islington focussed on providing a space for teenagers to try new things, create, make and showcase their talents, and have fun.
With Liv and I turning up first, we had a quick scope out of the shelves. Probably unsurprisingly for a Friday, they seemed to have had a run on their food and we started to wonder what we'd be carrying over. However, their manager managed to rustle up a couple of full bags of pastries, snack bars and other goodies for us to take over*** 🤩
With Michael's fashionable arrival completing the scene, I kindly allowed Liv and Michael to carry the bags while I took the occasional "in-action" photo and suggested diversions to our route that only resulted in a teensy, tiny, bit of trespassing, which is really just something fundamental to the average Londoner's existence.
With a mile or so of walking under our belt, we dropped off the food before heading off for our respective weekends: Liv and Michael are doing the Big Half this weekend (woot!), while I'm home to Wales (also, woot!).
*** We were also personally gifted a couple of fresh items. This is completely immaterial to the report, but it means that I got to try my first ever carrot juice: It tasted super strongly of carrots (I don't know why this felt like a revelation to me 😅), and burnt my mouth the same way that black pepper does. Yay for free allergen testing! 😬😂
