Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nicola Marshall
Oooh, what a wet evening!!! Not at all in keeping with Goodgym evenings! I’m not sure we can really claim that anymore to be honest! It didn’t stop us though! We were short in numbers this evening but Maurice & Nicola still managed to achieve great things on the street of Crewe.
At this time of year, it’s extremely difficult to find tasks (indoor tasks are always hugely welcome during the dark nights), so if you’re an organisation, charity, church or community group that needs some help from our lovely Goodgym team, do please get in touch. We’re a group of friendly volunteers that love to do good in our community. We’re very good at non skilled physical tasks – ie, moving furniture, cleaning, weeding, painting, sorting and scrubbing!
Maurice and I started our evening with a soggy wet walk. We did almost 4K (Maurice, you walk almost as fast as you run!!! Lol!). Halfway through the walk, the rain stopped, and we even managed to dry out! We chatted about all sorts as we walked – everything from liver to parkrun! We never ran out of anything to talk about – great company as always Maurice. One thing we did talk about at length was how beneficial running - and exercise in general - can be on our mental health. Combining it with doing good deeds enhances it even further. I can't imagine life without exercise and without Goodgym. I would encourage anyone to get involved with some form of physical activity - and combining it with Goodgym would just be the icing on the cake! :)
Back outside Sir William Stanier School and we set to work with our litter pickers and our bags. Wow! What a haul…. Our bags were almost too heavy to carry by the end of the evening. we picked up everything from plastic to pumkins! The streets around the school were looking much better by time we’d finished and there was a great sense of satisfaction for Maurice and I.
Next week we’re helping out at My CWA – a nice indoor task for a fabulous charity that we always love supporting.
Well done Maurice and thanks for putting up with just me this evening!
Have a great week and see you soon. Lots of love, Nicola xx
