Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Manjit Birk
Tonight’s task was a last minute replacement. We were due to go to a local school and help with a new vegetable garden, but the task had to be postponed.
No I in Team
With litter time to find a new task, I used one crucial means of comms! (WhatApp! How did we ever survive life without this)…and I messaged our regular runners for some brainstorming ideas
In litter-ally no time at all…a litter bird told me of a great team at the Council who might be able to assist.
Within minutes of emailing Vinay from Neighbourhood services team I had a task lined up, tools to the job and keen runners happy to switch tasks….Teamwork makes the Dreamwork
Thank you Emily for the lead
All that litters is not gold
The task was to do a litter pick of Farm Lane alleyway, which connects Oatlands Drive to Woodlands Avenue via two local parks.
The weather in Slough was umbrell-ievable today. We had heavy rain most the day, with localised flooding and an amber weather warning in place, I was therefore not surprised when our original 11 runners signed up for tonight decided to stay indoors instead. I was however on cloud 9 when Darren and Pam turned up.
Vinay’s team were hoping that a few residents of the surrounding area to Farm Lane might want to help us with this community clean up, so we headed all the way to the road end to see if anyone was waiting for us. But alas, it was not to be, the rain just kept everyone away.
So with Vinay as our extra team member we got to work.
Litter by little we delved through the debris and did the best community clean-up we could. In total we collected over 20 bags of rubbish (mainly beer cans); one suitcase, two mobile phones; 2 pairs of shoes; a kitchen cupboard, a sofa and a mattress. I’m sure we could of have done our own rendition of the 12 days of Christmas with our findings this evening.
Great job Pam, Darren and Vinay. Thank you again for turning up tonight. And thank you rain for easing off whilst we did our task.
Next week we are on a leaflet drop task for Slough Libraries to the Manor Park area. Hope to see you there
Have a great week everyone
