For this week’s Group Run we joined the Great British Spring Clean and the RSPCA to clear the Jewellery Quarter’s streets of dangerous litter.

The RSPCA receives around 5,000 calls every year regarding litter – that’s nearly 14 calls each day about animals who have been impacted by rubbish. Wildlife is the main victim, but litter like disposable vapes, balloons, drinks cans and plastic bags can also affect pets.

The drizzle had already started before the five of us headed out and got steadily heavier, until it was raining cats and dogs! No need to call the RSPCA though – all the real local animals were wisely staying dry indoors.

After collecting two big bags of rubbish – just a fraction of the 407,647 bags pledged by Great British Spring Clean volunteers this year – our walkers Amy and Miriam headed back to base while Jonny, James and Morwenna went on a 5km run along the canal towards town.
