Report written by Pauline Harrison
On a rather damp, grey Sunday morning, runners gathered at St Petersgate to take part in The Big Stockport 10k. The event continues to get bigger and better.
This year, in addition to the Family Fun Run, lifeLeisure teamed up with Totally Stockport and Stockport's Giant Leap to add a 'Frog Dash' around the Town Centre.
Volunteers from the Scout Association, Fire Service, and of course GoodGym, to name but a few were busy setting up water stalls, feeding stations and medal and t-shirt collection points, as runners warmed up and readied themselves for the challenge ahead.
Community spirit was evident, as old and young enjoyed the pre-race entertainment...and children ran barefoot through the plaza water feature in St Peter’s Square.
First past the finish post were the families completing either 1 mile or 1k. They received their finishers medals and wore them with pride...one young runner asking, ‘Is it real?’
Hot on their heels were the first of the 10k runners.
Handing out medals and finishers t-shirts was great fun. The runners were delighted when we presented their medals, instead of just handing them over in a plastic bag! 😁
A big shout out to all involved in the organisation, running and clear up of this great family event.
I may even consider running it next year 🤔
