We headed back to Lakeside this evening to assist with the final 5k race of the series. A big welcome to Andy who has moved to Portsmouth from Goodgym Lambeth and was able to attend this evenings group run. Andy, Jen, Katie, Maura and Jo headed out for a run around the lake and once back we met up with everyone else who was helping this evening.
We were soon put into our roles for the evening, Val was on the door at Starbucks making sure that people only went in when the green light was on and also ensuring that people left through the rear door and not the front. There were a few people who weren’t too happy to do this due to the rain but Val stood firm to make sure Starbucks procedure was maintained.
Jen, Vicki, Andy, Maura and Mel were on registration duties for those who had not yet picked up their number for the race. The thunder, lightning and downpour started just before the race start which didn’t dampen spirits. Everyone took shelter until we were needed to be in our positions for the duration of the race.
Katie and Vicki were primary number checkers, whilst Jen and Jo were backup number checkers. Mel made sure that runners kept in their positions once going through the finish. Maura ensured runners on their first lap went the correct way.
Allotment Assortment Once finished Val or V’Al Green as she could be known offered a range of green goodness from her allotment. Kale, sweetcorn and beans were handed out and some of us had interesting ways to pack them into our bags for the run/ride home. Vicki had a large amount of Bramley apples that were handed out and all of us headed home with something.
The 5k race series is now finished but hopefully we’ll be asked back to help out again when another event is held.
