Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Windsor and Maidenhead runner
Georgeta and Sheila answered a call to go and help Mr J. He has problems with his back, and is unable to sit on his sofa, or more accurately, is unable to get up from his sofa. This means that he is resricted to sitting in his bedroom, which is not good for his mental health. Social services had provided him with some risers for the sofa, but he needed someone to install them for him, as the sofa is very heavy. He has been waiting weeks for to find someone who can do this for him. Would GoodGym be the answer? When we got there, it took us a little while to work out that two different sysytems had been delivered, and that they didn't fit together! First we tried the frame system. After adjusting the two frames to the depth of the sofa, Georgeta did the heavy lifting while Sheila slid each frame into place. After a couple of hiccups, the sofa was raised, but did not seem to be very stable. A quick Google by Georgeta (who proved to be the brains as well as the brawn) revealed that the frames should have been supplied with screws so that they could be attached securely to the sofa. Needless to say the screws were not there. So we put plan B into action. We managed to place the cup raisers under each of the feet. This raised the sofa up, but perhaps not quite as much as Mr J would have liked, but at least he should now be able to make use of his sitting room which had the sun streaming through it and a beautiful cherry tree in blossom outside. He was extremely grateful for our help

Funny that, Kanika!! I had to Google MacGyver... I think we must be estranged twins 😝. I think that we'll need to take our toolboxes along 😄
