5 runners ran 5k to help fill up children sand pits at Coram Fields in Camden
On this 'special' afternoon session we ran 2k from UCL campus to Coram Fields to help at this playground and park for children and young people. The seven acre plot includes a Youth Centre, Children's Centre, Community Nursery, Sports Programme, and a city farm. As a charity they rely on help from others to keep running a great service.
Quick lunge in Tavistock Square
We set off on our tour of local parks at 3pm- stopping off for some dodgy warm up exercises in Tavistock Square. Under the watchful eye of the Gandhi statue we lunged, toe-walked, and side stepped our way around the park.... it wasn't at all embarrassing.
We soon arrived at Coram Fields, and Park Warden Noel set us to work- handing us collection of barrows, spades and rakes and pointing us in the direction of a huge pile of sand. We were tasked with filling up the depleted children's play pits so we made it into a race- pitting Students against.....non-students in a race to deliver the most barrows.
Wheel barrowing- the ultimate full body exercise
Students Richard and Julius got stuck straight in- taking a early lead as they dashed to and from the pit at full speed. However as we tired they started to forget to count their barrows- allowing me, Diana and Charlotte to catch up! It was tough work- with our bums, quads and arms getting a good workout.
Whole pit filled
In 40 hardcore minute's we managed to fill one of the huge pits- it was impressive work! We stacked away the tools and made our way for home-stopped at Russell Square for a light running interval interlude!
Russell Park dash
Starting at the corner of the park we dashed round the perimeter until the whistle blew- turning and jogging back to our start point before the stopwatch counted back to zero. It was great, we charged around the park like graceful gazelles....well maybe not- but we were pretty great anyway. Great work everyone!
