Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
This morning I met up with fellow Camdenite, Frances for a mission in Haringey for Ms H.
I have to admit, I didn't read the brief too closely for this task in advance: Beyond noting that Ms H needed the help because she gets breathless doing some gardening tasks, I simply pegged this one as a general gardening mission.
So, I was a little surprised to see that our task for the day was to dig out a couple of stumps/roots! One of these looked like a full blown tree strump, but the other looked more like a shrub-stump. We decided to see how far we could get with the baby stump before upgrading to the big tree leagues.
Luckily, Ms H had plenty of weapons for us to attack it with (the hatchet was the most fun 😄). Over the course of an hour, we sawed, mattock-ed, hatchet-ed, forked and dug around that root, noting that the destruction wreaked by the hatchet made it look like a slow-mo Thanos snap. Eventually the main root came free (my jubilent celebrations may have resulted in holding up the largest part and saying to Frances, "Look!! The still beating heart of our enemy!" I'm glad that she knows me well enough to not be scared by this).
After our success with baby stump, we had a go at trying to remove the other one. Unfortunately we couldn't really make any sizeable dent in it in the time available. We decided that it's likely to need even more specialised tools (potentially even... Power Tools), or a few hours of pure slog, which we just didn't have available today. Consequently, we packed away Ms H's tools and waved goodbye, leaving the stump resident in the ground with a few slug (and slug-like) hangers-on. Hopefully someone can eject it soon.
Lovely working with you again, Frances! Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend!
