Return to the house of Lords
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Saturday, 5th of September 2015
On Saturday morning, Goodgymmer's Patrick & Andreana ran to help Mr & Mrs L with various tasks they needed doing around the home. Mr & Mrs L are both in their eighties, now, and full of interesting tales to tell, so we were not short on good company as we worked.
Our first task was to put up some new curtains, and I got on with this whilst Patrick got to grips with the floor steamer - something I was most relieved about, having never used a floor steamer before. Patrick seemed to know what he was doing with it, though, and expertly topped it up with water whilst I removed curtain hooks from the old curtains and threaded them through the new ones. I gave the curtain rail a cleaning and a waxing before putting the new curtains up, so it is much smoother and easier to open the curtains, now. Then I removed a net curtain from the other room, and cut some transparent window vinyl to size which I then pasted over the window, making the room much brighter. In the meantime, Patrick was busy steaming stains off the kitchen floor. I was most impressed when I re-entered the kitchen to see this good-as-new floor before me! Mr. L. then took Patrick upstairs for some more steaming, whilst I covered another window with vinyl downstairs with Mrs. L.
And then, it was time to leave! We bid our goodbyes and were on our way, leaving Mr & Mrs L happy with the work we had done, and two GoodGymmers happy with their Saturday morning good deeds.
