Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Joel Wiles
15 Hackney GoodGymers burned off the Bank Holiday excess with a 6k run to help a local residential block for adults with disabilities.
Working our Tuesday evening community magic this week by creating a bright and beautiful Wellbeing garden. A sweaty 3k run in the end of the days sun brought us to Upper Clapton and Salveston House and the newly forming Wellbeing garden. After our initial efforts back in the end of 2016 it has taken a bit of time to get the funding for tools and plants so it was great to get back to the garden and move the project on in a big way! The residents will be super excited when they see our efforts in the morning! Working in little pods we had groups cutting back dead and overgrown vegetation. A few sniper weeders, 3 groups designing GoodGym inspired flower and bulb displays with easy grow flowers as well as bulbs. While we also turned over all the soil to lace it with compost and aid the growing process!
Rows in intricate patterns, triangles and the promise of a GG shaped bulb arranged we had the artistic side covered so we debated the key topics of what was the flavour of the amazing (found to be Chilly and Lemon) crisps that we are kindly given! 40 minutes of clawing away, digging and planting made a huge change to the outside space and we hope to be back in the coming weeks to add to the space!
We flew back to base after having a nose at the Core CIC building lead by the dynamic Patrick who set the pace that no one could match!
A quick stretch and we were off to revel in the evenings Good deeding efforts!
Quick shout out to about the Fitness 4 All sessions running every Thursday in June meeting outside Bethnal Green Underground station. Check out This weeks sessions here.
Have a great week
