Nine GoodGym legends cleared plastic and waste around Belgrave Lock
Proper summer weather is back! Nine of us made our way to Belgrave Lock to do our bit for the Canal & River Trust's Plastics Challenge - ridding the waterways of harmful waste.
Ashley, Nick, Jimmy and Huw enjoyed a pre-mission run around Abbey Park, while Ross and Jen ran directly to the task for their morning exercise.
Highlights included the remarkable collection (and counting) of 330 bottle tops, endless plastic bottles, aluminum cans and take away packaging.
What made it more rewarding were the words of thanks from countless passers by even including a woman shouting encouragement from her apartment window and one couple in the same building asking how they could get involved with our volunteering! Great to see the immediate impact on the local community in real time!
Just to top the morning off, a narrow boat approached the lock just as we were wrapping up so, all part of the GoodGym service, Dave and Nick obliged with opening the lock for the incoming vessel.
Well done everyone, top job!
