Report written by Dan Laws
Louise, Lauren and I were back for our weekly mission helping out at the East End Women foodbank today, carrying out tasks that we are very well accustomed to now! As usual, these included packing 45 ambient food parcels to be delivered next week, along with filling the delivery driver's cars with hundreds of already packed parcels to be delivered throughout Walker.
Having perfected our methods of meticulously packing the ambient food bags over the last few weeks, we decided to see who could pack their bag the fastest. Louise went first and packed her bag in a speedy 57 seconds, Lauren then smashed it with a 45-second effort, a time simply too quick for me to beat, managing to fill my bag in 50 seconds!
In the spirit of Anji's group run fitness sessions that we are all missing, Lauren and Louise also decided to use the largest tins of beans ever made as a weight for a few sets of squats as seen in the photos above!
We really do enjoy this task at such a brilliant organisation, get a lot of really valuable work done and I would recommend getting involved whenever possible!
East End Women offers practical courses for women to build confidence and skills around DIY, sewing, pattern cutting and basic trades. We also deliver the Freedom Programme domestic abuse recovery course, helping women to better understand the roots of domestic abuse and build confidence to identify warning signs in the future. In addition to this, East End Women also offer social activities and drop-in sessions for women experiencing isolation to meet one another, make friends and build local networks.
