Runners weed..... and shovels
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Bristol.
- Saturday, 29th of July 2017
Dave, Paul and I arrived at Mrs A's, where she welcomed us and took us to her list of tasks she needed help on with her back garden. After we saw these, we grabbed some tools from Mrs A’s very well equipped shed and got stuck right in!
Paul and I started pulling out the weeds around the entirety of the concrete slabs, and Dave got his biceps and leg muscles into motion by moving a load of plants from one section of the garden to the other. We all discovered that Dave is ridiculously strong and can really engage his core with heavy lifting! Whilst moving a lot of plants and pots, a large amount of snails and slugs were found. I especially enjoyed saving as many snails as possible, re-homing them and naming them with Mrs A!
Mrs A stayed out the entire time, sweeping whilst chatting with us about about various topics. Such topics covered were dogs, tortoises, snails, cats, hot air balloon rides.
The last task we had to do with Mrs A’s supervision was to put the tram down and lay stone chippings in the back garden. This sounded like an easy job, however in true MacGuyver-esk style, a wheelbarrow (which Paul loves as much as I love snails and slugs), an unstructural plank of wood, two shovels, two trowels and three Good Gymmers made it much more comical than you’d imagine!
Mrs A was delighted with the nice job and the breath of fresh of fresh air to her garden on a lovely afternoon, just completed before the rain started.
