Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Laura Williams
6 runners turned up at the Royal London to meet a very grateful Nancy Whiskin who heads up the Barts Volunteers.
"You're needed!" exclaimed Nancy, "We've missed you!" Turns out the Director of Nursing has been asking when the GoodGymers will return to tend to the precious planters at the front of A&E. These house the rose bushes donated to the trust by the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and they are loved by staff members.
The team wasted no time in pruning the bushes, "What do you think? Have I gone overboard?"asked Karen as she gave one bush a serious overhaul. " I think that's fine. It'll grow back," reassured Nancy.
So Karen and Jennifer tended to the planters near main A&E; Johnny and Emma to the ones closest to Children's A&E while Chris disappeared to indulge his favourite GG activity, litter-picking, and reappeared with several huge stuffed rubbish bags.
And the fuss we got at the hospital! Well, every patient and staff member had an opinion on how much to prune; I was shown into the hospital area to fill the water bucket; the security staff were the best support, encouraging us and posing for pics; ditto the paramedics.
Thank you, thank you Royal London - we have missed you so much, and can't wait to return.
