Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Tower Hamlets runner
One goodgymer cycled 3.8 miles to help serving free meal to school students at Mercato Metropolitano.
It was a little confusing to find where free meal is served... because there is no such place! Free meals are given at the same place where commercial meals are.
Then the rest is simple.
I was introduced to a lovely young lady who showed me how to put a meal together, make a record on a piece of paper.
When someone turns up saying they are collecting school meal, I'll prepare them accordingly. They are spoiled with choices! It does take some time but the food looks healthy and yummy! (was a little jealous to be honest ๐คค)
49 free meals were served in just 2 hours! Time flies. I stayed until the end. Enjoyable vibe. Definitely recommend!
Mercato Metropolitano, centrally located in London's south east Elephant & Castle, is the cityโs first sustainable community market focused on revitalizing neighbourhoods and protecting the environment. The market has incubated more than 48 food and beverage businesses, a delicatessen with sustainably sourced products from local farmers and artisans, a unique cinema experience, a communal kitchen and several circular economy concepts including a Bavarian micro-brewery, a hydroponics farm, a mushroom garden from spent coffee grounds and a vertical garden in a double decker bus to name a few. MM, launched in 2016, attracts up to 60,000 people a week to a part of the city that previously had little footfall. It aims to teach urban dwellers that they can support their local and rural communities while at the same time protecting the environment by focusing on what they eat and how they eat.
