Daylight, sunny but cool. These are the conditions that Chris and I decided are absolutely ideal for Goodgym, and this is what we had last night.

Our numbers were somewhat depleted due to the school holidays combined with train delays for some of our London workers (In future, if you can get to Stratford, perhaps join the Newham Goodgym session - they meet at the Aquatics Centre). However, it was great to see Michelle and Lucy back after a bit of a break.

In preparation for his role as Run Leader, Tav treated us to a new way to run to our task; "The Snake". Basically we all run single file, and the person at the back has to sprint to the front, and then shout 'Go', then the new person at the back sprints, and so on. This all worked great, except every time I had to sprint it was uphill, and my ankle isn't really taking sprints at the moment!

Still, lots of laughter proving everyone enjoyed it.

When we got to FirstSite, Eddie was there waiting for us, and took us through the building to the garden at the side of the building. Our task was edging of the footpath, and cutting back the wilderness area at the far end of the garden. We got set to work, and as usual the time flew by as we got a lot done.

Eddie did his best pose for the camera as well, and was so happy with all we got done, saying it would have taken him a whole day to do what we did, and he is alone in managing the entire site.

We really are lucky to have such a great space in Colchester for art and culture (notes to self that I should use it more). And there are multiple exhibits on at the moment. I can't remember all of them, but one of the pictures in this run report shows the one about the Charter of Colchester - always good to learn a bit more history of our town, since it is the oldest recorded town in England, and it was the Roman Capital, and is just the best place in the world, EVER (Yes, I am hoping some non-Colchestrians read this and come and visit).

After we left FirstSite, as planned we did our fitness session on the courtyard in front. However, I hadn't planned the few people there drinking beers and playing loud music. But the music was awesome, so whilst we did a few running related moves such as round the clock, and plyometric lunges, we mainly had a dance party to Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are the Champions.

I have to say that being out using our built environment to do a bit of exercise, alongside others who were there to enjoy music made me feel a whole lot more like I'm part of a community in Colchester, and not just the running community.

Definitely a great run and task!

As its Easter Weekend, we have a couple of extra tasks this week, one on Saturday, one on Monday. They are at different times to usual and the meeting point is also different, so make sure you check out all the details.
