Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Pennie Varvarides
This week 16 fantastic GoodGym-ers ran 6km to level the ground and shift weeds at a nature reserve in Turnpike Lane.
We were joined by GG newbie Tatiana - give her a cheer!
We started with some running-specific warm-up drills in front of the TG Pools before heading off towards the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve. We met Luke outside a nearby pub – where we successfully (accidentally) made some drinkers feel guilty as they walked past us doing step ups. Oisin was our Step Challenge Winner - winning himself a Hobnob.
We then did sprints to a white van, whilst we waited for Luke, before heading to the bank to get to work. Some volunteers have reclaimed four banks from the council to turn into beautiful nature reserves for the local residents to enjoy.
The one we were working on used to be a railway line. We moved weeds, leveled the ground and cleared litter on a patch near the side entrance. They'll be planting stuff in the bit we cleared and making it into a pathway, so it'll be exciting to see how it develops!
We found all sorts of strange things: never ending wire, a horse, a shed, a parking ticket. Before we knew it though time was up and it was time to pack away our tools and step away from the task - not that everyone was ready to stop when the time was up.
Just as we were putting down our tools Chi popped in, having got a little lost trying to catch up. There's always next time!
We then ran to Lordship Rec for some speed work before heading home for stretches and the rest of the Hobnobs. Haringey Hobnobs
