Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Leanne (she/her)
Two GG Yorkies arrived at Mrs V's on a beautiful sunny autumn morning to help her with her overgrown back garden.
The garden was full of buddleia, most of which looked to be self seeding, growing in the cracks between paving stones. It was front of the back door, the back gate and all of the windows.
Unfortunately Mrs V couldn't find the keys to the shed where her tools were locked away. While helping her to look, I spotted a pair of scissors in the cutlery drawer which, paired with the secateurs that Georgie had brought with her, were enough for us to get started!
Soon the garden was littered with cuttings as we removed the trip hazards, and light blockers from key spaces.
With no green bin or bags to put the garden waste, and no broom to sweep it up, we once again improvised. I tried to fashion a broom from a large cutting, which sort of worked but was mostly very inefficient. Georgie using her gardening gloved hands as sweepers was much more effective. We picked the most inconspicuous corner to stash the pile of garden waste, and soon it was full of cuttings from buddleia, brambles and other less recognisable weeds.
Job done, the garden was much tidier, and more importantly, much more accessible for Mrs V.
