Shed no shears for the ivy
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.
- Sunday, 18th of September 2016
Like some sentient creature, ivy had laid claim to Mr B's house. It's nefarious green tendrils were creeping along the window frames and into the brick work of the garden wall before reaching up to the neighboring flats and swallowing up all the sunlight to fuel it's relentless, hungry progress.
But fear not! This is no horror story, because on a bright Sunday morning in September three determined GGers armed only with shears, loppers and secateurs took on the fearful plant and wrested away it's tenacious grip - braving an ants nest, freakish giant spiders and a thick cloud of protective ivy dust in the process. Knowing all too well its crafty regenerative powers they then made sure to chop through all of its roots!
In fact so successful was the endeavor that new mission recruit Gillian was able to make massive headway on the rest of the garden using her weapon of choice - the fabled "Loppers of (one) Last branch before we go". In fact, with the ivy now completely vanquished the whole team were reunited to make a concerted (and slightly reckless in the 20 mins remaining) assault on the last overhanging branches. Their efforts were rewarded though when the ultimate prize was gained and the shed was once more revealed
Several garden waste bags later the garden was fully restored for use by the fantastic Mr B (and most importantly no TV cables were harmed in the excavation of the ivy).
Extra special mention to Gillian for staying the whole 3 hours while nursing a sprained ankle from hockey the day before!
