We couldn't have asked for better weather for the inaugural running of the Sheffield PubPlog as several of us congregated outside our base location of the Rutland Arms and waited for all our "competitors" to arrive.

Brandishing their mascots, 15 of Sheffield's finest ploggers arrived and were allocated into their plogging parties by Commander in Chief Kim who also delivered the briefing for the days events.

There were 15 scoring locations that each team had the option to visit, plogging as much as possible en route, with prizes available for the most distance covered, most locations visited, best item plogged. There was also a Broadfield-esque quiz on the topic of Sheffield for each team to complete on their individual adventures.

  • Team Wrecks
  • Wee Rocks
  • David 10 Pints
  • Tri Harder
  • Goofy Stick

After each team departed Kim and Spreadsheet Steve could relax for a few minutes before getting on the case with Instgram, Twitter and Whatsapp to keep up to speed with proceedings and share the amazing work of the plogging teams out in the field. It wasn't long before the updates were coming in and we were delighted to see how much fun was being had by all.

Each of the teams made the event their own, with some embracing the fitness side of the day's event, some focusing on the volume of rubbish collected and others taking a cheeky break to watch the Sheffield Urban Cycle Cross in Kelham Island.

Smashed it! What a team

Every person that took part contributed hugely to the day, but special mentions have to go out to the following individuals...

  • Heroic Helen for outstanding levels of plogging
  • Cretaceous Caroline for the best mascot in the form of a T-Rex
  • Distance Dan and the rest of team Wee Rocks for total distance covered
  • Sketching Shona for the David Tennant inspired sketching
  • Smiley Suze for legal arguments over the best plogged item

In the end a whopping 26 sacks of rubbish were collected and disposed of and the group covered a combined total of over 130 kms. There was some great feedback on the event, with the consensus being that this should happen again in future! Music to Kim and Steve's ears.

Great work you beauts!

Good job guys! I just had to Google the word cretaceous as it sounded rude.

From the setting off pics, it looks as though George knows about the things about to befall our team. I'm gleefully oblivious
