5 GoodGymers helped out at the annual Charlton Central Residents' Association local community day event. This event is run by volunteers from the community. In the morning there is litter picking and greening with a free lunch. In the afternoon there’s a jumble trail, craft stalls, cream teas and other refreshments.

Myself, Marta, Lynn Jen P and Matt helped out with the morning shift (11am - 12pm) which included litter picking, gardening and generally showing love to the roads and green spaces of Charlton Central! Armed with our trusty litter picks and bin liners we set out on our expedition. Considering the official start time of the tidy up was 10am there were still plenty of roads and spaces that had not been litter picked.

We all 5 of us started out litter picking along Inverine Road but it wasn’t long before one of the other volunteers (Jill) asked for an extra pair of hands with some gardening jobs. Matt was happy to lend a helping hand there.

After working on this road for a while we all split up and went off in different directions. Eventually after about a good hour of walking round the local streets we all ended back at St Richards Hall with some pretty full bin liners!

To thank us for our hard work the residents awarded us with a fantastic lunch of veggie chilli, salads and jacket potato. It was food well earned and we really enjoyed chatting to the local community and meeting new people. Hopefully we will be back again next year for more of the same!
