Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
This Monday's run was a particularly good workout: running, then burning more energy slashing down a heck of a lot of weeds. We took a slightly circutous route - along the canal and down Approach Road to the library where our new friends Richard (from the library) and Jane - (a local resident with big plans for using the plot of land for growing vegetables). We set ourselves the task of clearing the land and tidying up in half an hour. We managed to transform the place from an overgrown tangle of weeds to a nicely prepared bed ready for Jane and her friends to start growing vegetables.Though it does look a little bit brutal - and in the picture the weeds do look quite nice- most of the green stuff you can see on the left is stinging nettles and thistles. There was also a rose bush and a hazel sappling, both of these were carefully bagged up and will be moved to the estate around the corner. The work was pretty exhausting but we managed to get it all done and tidied up neatly. After all this we took quick warm down run in Victoria park. We'll keep in touch with the growth of the garden and hope to see a feature on our work appearing in the East London Life in the next few weeks.
