Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Bristol runner
After a busy morning of GoodGymming, Richard and Dave made their way to Ashton to help Mr and Mrs S to construct a flat pack single bed.
Mrs S had originally set us up in the kitchen as this had the most room, but having taken all the pieces out of the box and, after considering the manoeuvring logistics, we quickly decided that we would be better served by less space in the room the bed was going to be situated.
Richard soon demonstrated his highly dexterous fingers by managing to attach washers and nuts onto threadless bolts in small hollows in the frame, whilst Dave followed in with the small spanner provided to tighten everything up.
Encouraged by a nod of approval from Mr S and a welcome bottle of fizzy cola from Mrs S, we soon had the frame put together and it was time for the slats. Working in tandem, Richard on one side and favouring a screwdriver with a falling-apart handle, and Dave with a more trusty weapon on the other, each with a measuring wedge, we soon had the slats in place and all screwed down.
A delighted Mrs S watched as we unwrapped and placed the new mattress on top of the bed and couldn’t resist sitting down on it with a big smile.
Lovely to be able to make a big difference to them with a relatively simple task - and also to discover that Richard is a master of the flat pack!! 😊
