Planting galore at the seniors garden!
After a sunny (and slightly stony!) Hove Prom Parkrun, myself David and Tara ran to the task where we were met by Sherman. We were also joined this Saturday by two honorary Goodgym members, Sherman's friend Jerome and Tara's Mum Jenny who both lent their green fingers to what was a very big task!
We also had some amazing help from our landscape gardener Andy, having started work at 8:30!! He laid out a brilliant arrangement of vegetation for us to plant, alongside delivering 3 tonnes of compost to go with it! Having cleared the garden at our last Saturday task everything was ready to go to begin the transformation.
Myself and Andy set about shifting the 3 tonnes into the garden, ably assisted by our task owner Tony who despite his conditions still managed to put in as much effort as everyone else!
The main task was to get planting, with upwards of 50 plants to bed in everyone set to digging lots of holes to fill. With lots of tips on planting from Andy we spent a good two hours transforming the garden. The once baron beds are now full of climbers, flowers and trees that will flourish into a much more pleasant garden for the residents. It took us 3-4 hours to complete the garden but it was well worth the effort and made a nice change from our normal destructive tasks!
Tony mentioned afterwards how thankful he is for the help Andy has given the home and what a difference it makes having Goodgym help maintain the garden. With many residents aging and unable to leave their flats he said it will really brighten everyone's day to have a beautiful garden to look at.
We will back soon to plant the wild garden and place some hedgehog apartments for rescue tenants waiting to move in. Tony has also invited us to their Christmas lunch as a thank you, so keep an eye out for details from Tara soon.
See you at next weeks task!

An amazing transformation today, brilliantly documented by Michael. I feel really proud of what we've achieved at Sloane Court and can't wait to see the garden mature.
