Gem and Linda arrived at the Single Homeless Charity Allotments dismayed to see that much of what we had done previously was very overgrown again.

However closer look at the fruit trees showed that their bases were actually not so bad. So while friend of GGR (Linda’s Husband Ed) set about clearing a space around the shed it was decided Linda would clear a path between the vegetable beds and Jem would take on the more specialised task of weeding the bed. Shortly after starting our Jem accidentally disturbed a next of biting ants, who in turn disturbed her by swarming over her and giving her some spiteful bites. Now Jem was understandably not in the best of moods But she heroically shifted to a different section of the beds where the only threat was slug and snail slime, and she bravely carried on.

It is apparent that the combined limited person power of GG and SHP is not keeping pace with this years growing season. Having contacted SHP they are happy if we can just keep the fruit trees clear from weeds and watered, anything else we do seems to be a bonus so from that point of view we can consider today’s little bit of progress a success.

Well done us and a special well done to Jem for her stoic efforts in the face of adversity.
