3 GoodGymers ran 2km to help move furniture into a newly decorated almshouse at Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick.

Our task was to carry two sofas from the Master's House into the Almshouse which required removing the legs, negotiating 2 doorways, a staircase, another 2 doorways, a number of corners, a walk outside to the front of the house and then the final not inconsiderable hurdle of the last 2 doorways into the house.

Whilst it was a good physical challenge with lots of biceps bulging, the main challenge was testing our Tetris skills as we tried to work out how a large sofa can fit through a narrow doorway.

After much negotiating we managed the first sofa but then swiftly forgot our tested technique when it came to the smaller, second sofa and nearly fell at the last hurdle. After trying the sofa at every possible angle and direction we finally managed to get it through the final door with hopefully not too much touching up for the decorators to do!

Our final task was a piece of cake in comparison, moving a smaller bench upstairs to replace one of the sofas that had just been moved downstairs.

The Master of Lord Leycester Hospital, Dr Heidi Meyer, very kindly provided us with a brief overview of the history of the spectacular medieval buildings before we headed back to St Nick's. Thanks to Laura for taking the photos for our task today.

The Hospital is a historic group of medieval timber-framed buildings on Warwick High Street dating mainly from the late 14th Century. Of historic significance, they represent one of the finest examples in Britain of medieval courtyard architecture. Clustered round the Norman gateway into the town, the 12th Century Chantry Chapel sits above it. For nearly 200 years this site was home to Warwick’s medieval Guilds.
