Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Our mission with Sylvie from Brixton People’s Kitchen started with us sheltering under the trolley park in Sainsbury’s Local on Wandsworth Road trying to work out if it would be ok to take one of the trolleys for the 2 mile journey to Myatt’s Field. We decided that probably wasn’t a good idea, and so set off for New Covent Garden Fruit and Veg Market with hiking backpacks, duffel bags, and one wheely suitcase. This was a very, very wet mission.
The guys at the Market let us have about 60kg of fruit and veg that would otherwise get thrown out - broccoli (so much broccoli), cauliflower, apples, pears, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes - all of it perfectly good and looking very delicious. A couple of the stall holders even donated fresh organic fruit and veg, which was not going to waste, to support the supper club event at the Tea House Theatre in Vauxhall on Monday night. Stuff for the fridge took a wobbly wet bike ride to Myatt’s Field, and the rest went straight to the Tea House. Sylvie reckons she’s going to get two more trips in today to grab roughly her body weight in kale, too.
You can get your tickets for the Supper Club - a 3 course vegetarian dinner with some certified (by us) tasty-looking organic produce, plus live music, for £20. All proceeds go to Brixton People’s Kitchen, What’s not to like?
