Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
Tonight I met up with Sam and Clair for a mission in Hackney for Mr K.
Mr K is currently in hospital and needs a hospital bed installed in order to be released home. For that to happen, a sofa, dining table and coffee table needed to be removed from his living room. GoodGym were asked if we could help with this.
After accidentally playing rat-a-tat ginger with a neighbour, we found Mr K's house and introduced ourselves to his friend, E, who was kind enough to let us in. At first, E was a little distressed at the thought that we wouldn't be able to move the furniture as there was a large mobility scooter in the hallway. However, with a little elbow grease and remembering to use the steering wheel, we were able to move it out of the way so that we could start.
First to be moved was the sofa, which was being taken outside for collection by the council. Despite a couple of dodgy angles, Sam and I got this out reasonably quickly, if not elegantly (my trusty mental projection and arm-wavy trick for communication failing me yet again ๐ ).
Perhaps motivated by my native navigational ability, Clair and Sam took charge of moving the coffee table and some chairs to Mr K's bedroom while I "supervised" (and, by "supervised", I mean complimented E on the colour of her hat). This seemed to work out well enough that I joined in our last official job of moving the dining room table to the bedroom, a feat that required some angling, ducking and backseat directing/supervising (me again! ๐)
With this all done, we made a little more space in the living room by pushing a small coffee table and another sofa closer together, and finished up by pushing the mobility scooter back into the hallway. Job done in 30 minutes, it was time to make our goodbyes and take a selfie for the road.
Sam, Clair, it was fun/good to move stuff with you guys (especially since our speediness means that I'll definitely be home in time for my food delivery! ๐ฅฐ) See you guys soon! ๐๐
