Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Frances Collier-Wright
What better way to start the weekend than getting an urgent task done. Sam and I were both ready and willing to drop everything to get to Mrs C's to sort out a furniture crowding issue. The sofa was taking up all the space in the sitting room, preventing a hospital bed from being delivered. It needed to be socially distanced out of the flat, down one floor, and out by the bins. Unfortunately it was very large and extremely heavy, so I did in fact drop everything whilst sorting out this furniture issue (just a couple of times). Luckily Sam is a skilled sofa practitioner and we managed to wiggle it out of the doors, shove it onto its end and waddle with it down the corridor. And there, reader, we faced a dilemma. The sofa was too big for the lift and too long for the stairs, but we really didn't think it was a good idea to heave it over the railing to fall to the ground as we were being encouraged to do. Happy accident prevailed: having removed two of the seat backs, the third came loose as we were maneuvering, so it was mercilessly wrenched off, leaving the remaining sofa just about small enough to fit in the lift. Cue movie moment in which I pushed the sofa upright into the lift with Sam, pressed ground, then raced it down the stairs so I could be ready to catch it as the doors opened at the bottom. The rest was easy, we just dragged it round the corner to where it will be collected, propped the seat backs with it and let out a sigh of relief. Hopefully Mrs C will heave the same sigh of relief when she is discharged on Monday to the comfort of her own home.
