Sol, Roberta and Sheila met taskowner Sue at the Community allotment on a very warm afternoon. Several bags of topsoil had been acquired, which needed to be distributed onto the beds so the bags could be re-used the following week. Despite only being half-full the bags were extremely heavy, so we had to be careful lifting them, although Sol proved to have some pretty impressive muscle power. We spread the soil on the beds, weeding some as we went, and then planted up some tomatoes in pots with the remainder. Well done, team!

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.

Excellent work! Well done Sheila for being flexible and making this session happen since the original Friday plan wasn’t possible. 👏
