Tonight saw 13 goodgymers in Cardiff meet in the dark night ready to hit the streets for a nice 5km.

Our task, to help out with the Forget me not cafe and support group who meet at St. Edward's Church in Roath utilising their community space. This is the first time that they have been back, meeting in person for a long time due to the pandemic so we were eager to jump in and help out in any way that we could.

But before we head off on our active travel for the evening, we have a celebration or TWO......

It's the 50th mission for Alice and Adam

Well done both

Off we go, it was a lovely night for an exercise across the city and not too long before we arrived at our destination. Kathie was there to tell us all about it and how much fun they had seeing each other again at forget me not, and explain our tasks tonight;

  • Sweep the hall
  • Vacuum the carpets
  • Put the chairs back

We got the tasks completed nice and quick, giving us a bit more time to enjoy some chocolate and biscuits to fuel us ready for the return trip. The runners and walk / jog groups set off in different directions but with the same end in sight.

Everyone was very happy to get back after a good evening of volunteering, and in time to watch the Wales football match to boot. Well, isn't that good timing!

This task supported
Forget-me-not Cafe and gardening club
Cafe open for 2 hours a week [but grounds always open] for people living with dementia and their cares, people recovering from stroke, those who are at risk of becoming isolated or lonely

We provide a safe, friendly space for people to meet, have musical entertainment, play table tennis, play draughts, chat, colour, do some art and now wish to extend to provide gardening as therapy. To the latter end we need to clear out a cellar of various bits of rubbish and make it into a storeroom for pots, gardening equipment etc.
