Report written by Michelle
Four Goodgymers headed over to Southall this morning to lend a hand at a community food bank set up by a local primary school in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
Larissa has set up regular mission slots for small groups of GoodGym volunteers to help with the fortnightly food collection on Friday mornings.
Following the centralisation of many food banks in London, Featherstone Primary identified a need for families locally and quickly established the school as the hub for families to come and collect food parcels or donated items.
JP from GG Richmond and Michelle from GG Hounslow joined Larissa and Marieke from Ealing and other volunteers with overseeing the food collections.
Amongst the donations were cans of soup, vegetables, pies, macaroni, packets of mash, rice, pasta, lentils, some fresh groceries and sanitary items aswell as some donated sweet treats for children.
Inside the school were ready -prepared food parcels for families who would otherwise not get any help, to collect. These parcels include fruit and veg aswell as non perishable items, fruit squash tea and coffee.
After an hour the queues of people had passed through and collected what they needed, with all households selecting from items displayed on the school's bookshelves.
The school now works with Ealing food bank, which delivers food donations ahead of the fortnightly family collections so if you’ve donated to any of the food bank drop off points you can see first hand how much your donations are appreciated.

We headed off, after moving the book shelves back inside. Stopping off in Ealing for a quick coffee before going our separate ways. Marieke and JP onto two more missions; these lockdown legends just can’t get enough GG Friday goodness!
