Report written by Amy L (she/her)
Meggie, Angie and Raymond met at the sun-kissed Maidenhead Community Allotment this evening to tackle a number of tasks. The to do list included watering, edging around fruit trees, spreading topsoil over a bed recently vacated by peas and tomatoes, weeding, and sowing some Calendula seeds.
Last week Sue asked whether there was anything any of our runners would particularly like included in the plans for the allotment, and the Calendula was Meggie's idea.
I'd love to see some Calendula in the allotment. It's a beautiful plant that flowers for many months...and it is an edible flower so it would be in its own right place.
We can't wait to see those pretty orange flowers next Spring and we're intrigued to have a taste too...
Well done everyone on your hard work this evening.
The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
