Jess and Sheila went to help out at the community allotment. While the water butts were filling, we got down to our main tasks. Sheila took on filling a compost bin with bags of horse manure, layering it up with cardboard so it can be left to mature over the next few months . Meanwhile Jess topped up the strawberry and small onion beds with some topsoil acquired by Sue via Freegle. We stopped to weed the rhubarb/onion bed, and used up the remainder of the topsoil on this bed. After giving everything a good drink (to ensure it will rain at the weekend as promised), we made our way home

This task supported

The Maidenhead Community Allotment is run by a group of volunteers, who grow food to share with local residents, the users of the Boyn Grove Community and Resource Centre and Maidenhead Foodshare. They work with Men in Sheds, who are based on the same site. Men in Sheds is an initiative to combat loneliness by providing a space for men to connect and chat over practical tasks.
